Troop 18
Since 1963, scouts have met at the Scout Hut behind the Glenn Youth Building. Venture Crew 18 was added from 2016-2020.
Troop 18 is now sponsored by T18/P6 4Ever, Inc.
Troop 18 serves the Druid Hills School cluster which includes the Avondale, Clairmont Heights, Druid Hills, Emory, Medlock, North Druid Woods, and Greater Valleybrook Road areas. The Troop conducts activities at Glenn Memorial Church and surrounding locations in Emory, Druid Hills, and North Decatur. Troop 18 Scouts look forward to 10-12 outings a year including activities such as canoeing, hiking, camping, caving, climbing, skiing, whitewater rafting and more plus ongoing leadership development.
The Troop is located at the southern end of the Hightower Trail District, one of 17 districts comprising the Atlanta area Council.
“Youth Led Troop.”
Troop 18 is committed to the Patrol Method, espoused by the Scouts BSA. Our aim is to have a “youth-led troop” meaning we encourage the Scouts to run the weekly meeting programs and to decide on monthly outings.
The Senior Patrol Leader is in charge of Troop 18, including the weekly Troop meetings and the monthly Patrol Leaders’ Council in which he and the patrol leaders decide on upcoming events.
Adults ensure that these activities occur in a safe environment while providing support and mentoring.
Who is eligible to be a Scout?
Any boy or girl who is 11 years old OR has completed 5th grade OR is a Cub Scout who has attained the Arrow of Light Award.
“A Scout is Reverent.” This is the 12th point of the Scout Law. It means that a non-denominational reverence is an important part of our activities. Troop 18 traditionally has a Scout who is the Chaplain’s Assistant; we say pre-meal blessings, and may have chapel services/”vespers” while on trips.
